چکیده
In this paper we make some general comments on the methods used for modelling glasses and use glassy GeSe2 as an example. We then emphasize recent work on As–Se glasses, including glassy As2Se3 and amorphous AsSe. The topology and electronic and vibrational properties of the models are discussed and with their use we infer the microscopic nature of the valence band x-ray photoemission (XPS) signal of g-As2Se3 and AsSe. We note that the XPS signal may be interpreted as arising from three distinct subbands with well defined structural origins.

Nanoscale Inhomogeneities Mapping in Ga-Modified Arsenic Selenide Glasses
Nanoscale inhomogeneities mapping in Ga-modified As2Se3 glass was utilized exploring possibilities of nanoindentation technique using a Berkovitch-type diamond tip. Structural inhomogeneities were detected in Gax(As0.40Se0.60)100-x alloys with more than 3 at.% of Ga. The appeared Ga2Se3 nanocrystallites were visualized in Ga-modified arsenic selenide glasses using scanning and transmission elec...
متن کاملData Transparent and Polarization Insensitive All-Optical Switch Based on Fibers with Enhanced Nonlinearity
We have developed a data transparent optical packet switch prototype employing wavelength conversion based on four-wave mixing. The switch is composed of an electro-optical control unit and an all-optical switching segment. To achieve higher switching efficiencies, Ge-doped silica suspended-core and chalcogenide arsenicselenide single-mode fibers were experimentally evaluated and compared to co...
متن کاملGrowth mechanism of nanowires: Binary and ternary chalcogenides
Semiconductor nanowires exhibit very exciting optical and electrical properties including high transparency and a several order of magnitude better photocurrent than thin film and bulk materials. We present here the mechanism of nanowire growth from the melt-liquid-vapor medium. We describe preliminary results of binary and ternary selenide materials in light of recent theories. Experiments wer...
متن کاملNonlinear Group IV photonics based on silicon and germanium: from near-infrared to mid-infrared
Group IV photonics hold great potential for nonlinear applications in the nearand mid-infrared (IR) wavelength ranges, exhibiting strong nonlinearities in bulk materials, high index contrast, CMOS compatibility, and cost-effectiveness. In this paper, we review our recent numerical work on various types of silicon and germanium waveguides for octave-spanning ultrafast nonlinear applications. We ...
متن کاملChemical Monitoring of Composite Matrices by Evanescent Wave Spectroscopy
This paper presents the results of an initial investigation into the potential for monitoring water absorption and chemical degradation in epoxy matrix composites using evanescent wave spectroscopy. While conventional silica glasses have too low a refractive index and too short an IR transmission window to be useful as unclad sensing elements in most resin systems, chalcogenide glasses offer su...
